Assuming you are solving for y, you need to first distribute the 4 into the parenthesis, and the 5 into the parenthesis. Doing that will give you 12y-4-6=5y+10

Now combine the y's and the "regular" numbers, the y's on one side of the equals sign and the constants on the other side.

thanks for the answer to simplify the answer what would i need to do next would I divide both sides by 7??
