can anyone help with absolute value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let f(x)=│x-1│which of the following conditions holds true A.f(x)=-(x-1) if x <1 B.f(x)=x-1 if x >1 C.f(x)=x-1 if x >0 D.f(x)<0 if x=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

will fan and medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if \(x<1\) then \(x-1<0\) so \(|x-1|=-(x-1)=-x+1\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A is correct there may be other correct ones too if \(x>1\) then \(x-1>0\) so \(|x-1|=x-1\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u help me with a few more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which interval does the inequality│x │<3 define A.(3,8) B.-3,3 C.0,3 D.-8,3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\((-3,3)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u help with this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let f(x)={2x x<0 0 x>0 Which of the following is a equivalent definition of f(x) A.f(x)=x+│x│ B.f(x)=2│x│ C.f(x)=│x│-x D.f(x)=2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't see a good answer from your choices if say \(x=-2\) then \(f(-2)=-4\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can't figure out how to get \(-4\) from any of your choices except the last one but the last one would not work if \(x>0\) so i am stuck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the 2x x<0 part at the top the 2nd x is supposed to have a little line under it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let f(x)={2x x<0 0 x>0 Which of the following is a equivalent definition of f(x) A.f(x)=x+│x│ B.f(x)=2│x│ C.f(x)= x-│x│ D.f(x)=│x│-x E.f(x)=2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is the correct question
