The manager of a women’s shoe department recorded the following sizes of shoes sold in one day: 5, 6, 5 1/2, 7, 9, 6, 5, 7 1/2, 7, 5, 8, 6 1/2, 7, 8, 6, 4, 6 1/2, 10, 7 Choose which measure of central tendancy best describes the following: the value most helpful to the manager for maintaining the stock a. mean c. mode b. median

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the ans is not A (figured out in practice answers) pls tell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@paki

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it should be mode...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all i know is that mean is used when there r no outliers and mode is used when there r outliers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*typo median is used when there r outliers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then see...you figurred out A is noot answer... and mode is used when there is no outliner..then the left choic is your answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was a typo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

median is used when u have an outlier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so?

OpenStudy (paki):

then what you say about the answer....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um...do u know? i cannot read that whole thing fast can u tell me the ans?

OpenStudy (paki):

@zaibali.qasmi agree with mode...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@IMStuck

OpenStudy (paki):

for this please have a look at the data provided...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Sounds like it is the mode from your math problem, even though business-wise I would never give such an advise without looking deeper at the situation. Like the last purchases stats and other things about the store and costumers that I know. Juts trying to sound smart :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why not mean @SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???? @SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

mean is not necessary any of the shoe sizes.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

necessarily (oops)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought we use mean when there r no outliers n i dont see any outliers?????

OpenStudy (paki):

outlier makes no sense here....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u explain me in a lil more detail @paki @SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (paki):

OMG @MaimiGirl , what you need to be explained... tell me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how can u and solomon so easily say that it is mode all i am asking is that why can't it be mean??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am not good at this i'm jst learning it

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

mean is not any of the shoe sizes, as paki has said several number of times. If most people where size 6 (for example) then even if the average is 5.5, there is no reason to have some extra 5.5, people will buy size 6 more.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thnx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

appreciated! :)
