Firstly here, subtract tan(x) from both the sides..

are you sure? i think youre supposed to divide tan(x) from both sides

You can only divide tan(x) if it is not equal to 0.. We must consider tan(x) = 0 case too..

Proceed by subtracting tan(x) from both the sides and then taking tan(x) common from both the terms in LHS..
