A clock is showing 4PM. Find the smallest angle between the 2 hands . THEN, find the distance between the tips of the hands that are 5cm and 3 cm long

OpenStudy (neer2890):

|dw:1406271420683:dw| total angle= 360 so angle between any two numbers in a clock = 360/12=30

OpenStudy (neer2890):

|dw:1406271630559:dw| so here theta= 30*4=120 degree if we are concerned about 12 hour clock.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{4\ 180 {}^{\circ}}{6}=120 {}^{\circ} \] then use the cosine law http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_cosines

OpenStudy (neer2890):

if the clock is 24 hours then the angle between any two numbers= 360/24=15 so when it's 4PM it should look like |dw:1406271892638:dw| here. theta= 15*16=240 degree so the minimum is 120 degree.
