I found someone asking this question a year ago. :P I hope it helps.

\("\)ATP is the energy of a cell, and it's recycled all the time. ATP means Adenosine Triphosphate. And really what you need to understand is the Tri means 3, and what happens is there are three phosphates bonded together. So to transfer energy, the cell puts energy into the bonds of these 3 phosphates and the ATP moves to a place where energy is needed and then breaks the bonds of the phosphate to release energy turning it into ADP which is Adenosine Diphosphate, di, meaning 2. So then what happens is mitochondria take the ADP and phosphate and combine them back together during respiration by taking the energy from sugar to make ATP again to transfer energy again! \("\)
