need help parallel lines and proportional parts
ye since the lines are parallel, the segments formed by transversals will be proportional
\[\large \dfrac{3x}{5} = \dfrac{\frac{2}{5}-x}{x}\]
can i divide 2/5 first and then cross multiplication
thats a good idea multiply 5 top and bottom on right hand side
you get : \[\large \dfrac{3x}{5} = \dfrac{2-5x}{5x}\]
i get x= -2/3 and x= -1 is this right
you should get x=-2 and x = 1/3 http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=solve++%5Cdfrac%7B3x%7D%7B5%7D+%3D+%5Cdfrac%7B2-5x%7D%7B5x%7D
and you need to discard x=-2 as it makes a length to be negative which is not possible so the only value possible for x is 1/3
oh yes you are right ans is 1/3
thank you sooo much
i really really really appreciate it
