Mark and Jessica plan to share the hot chocolate from a full cylindrical thermos equally. The thermos has an inner radius of 2 inches and an inner height of 11 inches. If they will each use a mug with an inner radius of 2.25 inches, how high will the hot chocolate be in each mug to the nearest hundredth of an inch? Use the formula: V = 3.14r2h.

OpenStudy (crashonce):

\[Volume of thermos = 3.14\times2^2\times11\] \[V=138.16\] \[V \div2 = 69.08\] Let height of the mugs be h \[V=3.14\times2.25^2\times h\] but v = 69.08 \[\therefore, h = 4.3456\]
