help in algebra 2

OpenStudy (ineedhelp10):

The average of a set of six integers is 38. When a seventh number is included in the set, the average of the set increases to 47. What is the seventh number?

OpenStudy (ineedhelp10):

would you mind helping please? @bahrom7893

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

what is the average a number of integers?

OpenStudy (ineedhelp10):

its 38

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

no, i mean let's say you're given integers a, b, c, d, e, f. How do you find their average?

OpenStudy (ineedhelp10):

oh you add them all together and then divide by the amount

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

yes, let's say when we add up all those integers, we get a certain number, x. So this means: x/6 = 38

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

that means the sum itself is x = 38*6 = 228

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Are you following so far?

OpenStudy (ineedhelp10):

yes, im following

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

so now when we add another number, the total sum is the sum of the first 6 numbers plus the 7th number, so 228+y

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

to find the average we need to divide that total sum by 7: (228+y)/7, and that equals 47

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

(228+y)/7 = 47 Find y.

OpenStudy (ineedhelp10):

i get 101

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Looks right to me

OpenStudy (ineedhelp10):

ah ok. thank you so much!!! will you mind helping me in another problem?

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

sure

OpenStudy (ineedhelp10):

ok ill post it in another post
