Probability and Prediction are the keywords here. You can predict the reoccurrence or occurrence of something based on probabilities.
You can hypothesis an outcome of a situation based on experimental probability. Let's say you want to toss a coin, after several hundred tosses you arrive at the conclusion that the coin is close to a 50/50 outcome of landing on either heads or tails with no favored sides. Using that probability you can now make an educated guess or prediction of what the next coin toss will be. The same can be done with other events and experimental results.
