Sharmi ran 3 miles in eighteen minutes. How long would it take her to run 7 miles

OpenStudy (kainui):

Let's think of an example where we might be able to figure it out, and see if that leads us to any insight. If you can run 3 miles in 10 minutes how long do you think it will take to run 6 miles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20 minutes

OpenStudy (kainui):

So how did you know that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because I know 10 plus 10 equals 20 and if you wanted to run 6 miles you just added 3 again to it

OpenStudy (kainui):

Ok, so what if we extend this to running 9 or 12 miles? How about any number now? Can you try to find a pattern?
