do you know if there are any negative numbers used...

the reason I ask, is if a + b + c = 16....look at the top row going across..
BCAC = 54....if a + b + c = 16, then the other c is 54 - 16 = 38...yet the total going down is 34.
are the numbers supposed to toal going across, or just down ?

well...there is 3 unknowns....so lets set up 3 equations

A + B + 2C = 54
2A + B + C = 50
A + 2B + C = 44

multiply 1st eq by -2 :
-2A - 2B - 4C = - 108 (result of multiplying by -2)
2A + B + C = 50

-B - 3C = - 58

2A + B + C = 50
A + 2B + C = 44 --->(-2)

2A + B + C = 50
-2A - 4B - 2C = -88 (result of multiplying by -2)

-3B - C = - 38

-B - 3C = -58
-3B - C = -38 --->(-3)

-B - 3C = -58
9B + 3C = 114

B = 56/8
