HELP I"VE BEEN STUCK FOREVER ON THIS QUESTION NOW! PLEASE! I need help making an outline on: Are clothing advertisments aimed at teens effective and are they ethical?

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Depends on the brand and advertisement types. For example, for a chain clothing store such as Bealls, you will see a more moderately dressed person studying, while for something like, oh i dont know, Hollister (or something of the likes, idk) will have a teenage girl dressed in clothes revealing more skin.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if you're trying to make a basic outline on this subject, you need to define what is "ethical" and what is "effective." So let's start with effectiveness. How does one determine if something is effective?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I don't think ads aimed at teens are ethical but effective maybe depends.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's a start. So merriam webster defines effective as "producing a result that is wanted : having an intended effect" So the intentions of the company, getting people to desire buy their product, are successful if the ads are effective. This causes them to do it in such a manner that is appealing to the audience, meaning effectiveness is in appeal. So what are some examples of ads aimed to teens concerning clothing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Additionally, can you expand on the lack of ethics in these ads?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhmm.. TV commercials on back to school sales?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do those ads relate to clothing? Are they appealing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They make teenagers want to buy them so they can look good for school>

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are appealing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, so by definition, the ads would be effective in terms of accomplishing the corporate goal of instilling a desire to purchase these goods. So moving on to ethics, you states before that the ads aren't ethical in your opinion. Why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure.. :( I really don't exactly know what it means.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So ethics is basically morality. Ethics is the "right" and "wrong" of actions. The most used example of morality is the "whether or not to lie" example. Remember we've already shown that the ads are effective, so is catering to teens in ads a bad thing to do if they are effective?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i didnt mean that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry. Which part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant its not wrong because if theu want their product sold it wouldnt be a bad idea to advertise. It wirks ggood both ways they marketer sells and gets their money and the customer buys and is satified in life.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. Sorry for misinterpreting. So the overview is that the advertisements are effective and ethical because they make people want to buy the product and create success in the business. Now that we have the ideas to go into the outline, what kind of outline do you need to make?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just a regular one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How large dos it have to be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to III.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My title would be: are clothingads aimed at teens effevtive and ethical? or would that be my thesis??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, so what most writers will recommend is a basic outline with an opening, body, and conclusion paragraph. The basic structure will usually go like this in this case: I. Intro A. Points of intro II. Body A. Effectiveness 1. Points on effectiveness 2. Points on effectiveness B. Ethics 1. Points on Ethics 2. Points on Ethics III. Conclusion A. Points of Conclusion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you for showing me this set up because i was researching one forever.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Glad to help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I. Is clothing advertisemnets aimed at teens effective and are they ethical? A.they are effective B.they are ethical II.Effective A.helps teens to know the style. B.?? II. Ethical A. helps marketers sell faster so they can get money B. leaves customer happy ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's a great start, you've filled in what we know, so thus far you have everything but the conclusion. But the basic rules behind outlines are as follows: Every Roman numera (I, II, III) shows a new paragraph. Every Capital letter shows a point. Every normal numeral (1, 2, 3) shows a subpoint. This means that the structure goes more like this: I. Intro A. Clothing ads are effective and ethical II. Body A. Effectiveness 1. Help teens know style 2. Points on effectiveness B. Ethics 1. Helps sell products 2. Makes customers happy III. Conclusion A. Points of Conclusion The conclusion is usually a summary of what has been presented in the body AND the introduction. The conclusion can almost be considered a more detailed introduction, with more information.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would i just come up with some type of summary about they ethics and eefectivness for my conclusion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, just think of the conclusion as smaller version of the essay. Include the points that you definately want your readers to get from your essay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you give me an example? I'm sorry, its just things like this my brain really just shuts down...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and is this ok for the second point for effectiveness. gives teens a variety of clothing to choose

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's alright I had a hard time learning it myself. So in this case if you had expanded in you body paragraphs about the reasons the ads are effective and ethical, you would want to condense that into your conclusion. Usually one would begin with a transition into the conclusion (for these reasons, in conclusion, etc.) then you would include the hard facts. just try writing them out as simply as was in your outline: In conclusion I believe clothing ads to be both effective and efficient because they help both the company, making the ads effective, and the people, making them ethical. The company is able to sell a large selection of clothing and the people are able to gain this selection through the company. The fact that the ads help both parties makes them effective and ethical. The conclusion here is a bit redundant but it should give you a general idea of what to include. Just remember to answer the question you're writing about in the essay That point on effectiveness should work nicely.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you sosososososo much for helping me I really really appreciate it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem. Good luck on the outline. anything else you need help with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No thank you but I will sure let you know if I do. Thanks again!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem, bye :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good day =) -waves-
