You purchase a shirt for $8.50. There is a 6% sales tax. Your total cost will be Please help me understand

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

the shirt price is $8.50 so to find how much tax you owe knowing that the shirt is $8.50 you then have to mult. them together. So i will appear as 8.50 * 6% We want to change 6% to decimal so we can mult. them together. When you want to change percent to decimal you have to move the decimal place two places to the left so it will look like .06. Now, we are able to mult. the two together 8.50 * .06= .51 So know we know that .51 is the amount of sales tax. Since .51 is the amount of sales tax and the price of the shirt is 8.50 we have to add the two number together so it'll look like 8.50 + .51= $9.01 is the total amount of the purchase hope this helped :D
