How did Reconstruction policies affect life in the United States?

When slaves were considered free at that point, they were still poor. Their weren't allowed to own land and have farms to work on them. The 13 amendment didn't do a full job on abolishing slavery as there were still southerners who disagreed and still wanted to own slaves for their plantations. Also, racism still continued and that's what made civil rights movement to rise due to the unsuccessful reconstruction policies.
