You can manipulate your equation to quadratic form: \[ax^2+bx+c = 0\] Then you can use the quadratic formula: \[\frac{ -b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{ 2a }\]

To do so you can subtract 24 from both sides so that: \[x^2 + 6x = 24\] will now be \[x^2+ 6x -24 = 0\]
