How do you change a fraction to a decimal? Give an example. Step 1: Find a number you can multiply by the bottom of the fraction to make it 10, or 100, or 1000. Step 2: Multiply both top and bottom by that number. Step 3. Then write down just the top number, putting the decimal point in the correct spot (place it one space from the right hand side for every zero in the bottom number) Example: Step 1: We can multiply 4 by 25 to become 100 Step 2: Multiply top and bottom by 25: 3/4=75/100 multiply the numerator by 25 and the denominator by 25. Step 3: Write down 75 with the decimal point 2 spaces from the right (because 100 has 2 zeros) Answer is 0.75 What is a mixed number? What is an improper fraction? Give an example. A mixed number is a number consisting of a integer and proper fraction. A improper fraction is a fraction where the numerator is greater then the denominator. How do you change a mixed number to an improper fraction? Give an example. Step one: multiply the whole number part by the fractions denominator. Step two: Add that to the numerator. Step three: Write the result on top of the denominator. Example: convert 3 2/5 into an improper fraction. Step one: multiply the whole number(3). 3 times 5 = 15. Step 2: add the numerator to that 15+2=17 Step 3: write the result on top of the denominator.. 17/5 How do you change an improper fraction to a mixed number? Give an example. Step one: divide the numerator by the denominator. Step two: write down the whole number answer. Step 3: write down any remainder above the demoniator/ Example: convert 11/4 to a mixed fraction. Divide: 11 divided by 4 = 2 wirth a remainder of 3. write down the 2 and the remainder above the denominator like this: 2 3/4 How do you simplify a fraction? Divide both the top and bottom fraction by the greatest common factor. Example: 8/12. The largest number that goes into both 8 and 12 is 4 so the greatest common factor is 4. What does it mean if a fraction is in simplest form? It is in its lowest form and cannot be simplified any further. What is a ratio? A statement and comparison of how two numbers compare to the other. A comparison of the size of one number to the size of another. What is a proper fraction? A fraction that is less then one with the numerator less than the denominator. Where is the numerator located? Where is the denominator located? Numerator is the top number of the fraction and the denominator is the bottom.
