Simplify the given expression: (−5 + 3i) • (1 − 2i) I've been having trouble with these... I use FOIL and then combine like terms but the answer I come up with is never an option. These are my four options the closest one to my answer is the second one. −5 − 6i 1 + 13i 2 + i 4 − 5i

OpenStudy (nurali):

(−5 + 3i) • (1 − 2i) -5+10i+3i-6i^2 -5+13i+6 1+13i

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

yes @ nurali @abbyrose0105 u both are correct

OpenStudy (abbyrose0105):

yayy I was right! But I believe what I am getting confused about is after using foil what is added or subtracted. For example if I have (2-5i) *(4+7i) how do I know to add or subtract after distributing?

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

if u are multiply + into - = - and if u multiply - into - = + and if - into + = - and if + into + = + like this when u will multiply them then condition will come itself then just look the sign either there is - or +

OpenStudy (abbyrose0105):

Got it thanks so much!!!

OpenStudy (nurali):

Anytime.

OpenStudy (haseeb96):
