Start by finding the area of each side then add the area up. So let's find the area of the four sides, then find the are of the top and bottom
Two of the sides will be 14*7, and the other two sides will be 12*7. The top and bottom will be 12*14. Does this make sense?

Yup but there's actually two of each of these squares. So now we have 98*2 + 84*2 + 168*6

Sorry, the last one is meant to be 168*2, not 168*6. You did the calculation right though. So the last one is really 276. Now we just add up 196+168+276
