what are 3 consecutive intergers whoes sum is 114

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

can you think of 3 consecutive numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 2 and 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

37 + 38 + 39. There's an algebraic way to solve this but it's too much work, so you're better off just guessing and checking

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmmm I see 1 is the first one.. how did you get the 2nd one? number 2? and how did you get the 3rd one, number 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n + (n+1) + (n+2) = 114 3n + 3 = 114 3n = 111 n = 37.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then plug 37 into n+1 and n+2 and voila

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

ridoleor, I would make x the middle number, that would be easier to solve.
