Mixtures can be separated into their components by taking advantage of differences in the chemical properties of the components. Why might this separation method be less convenient than taking advantage of differences in the physical properties of the components? @JoannaBlackwelder

Because when you separate things chemically, what is left over are not the same compounds as what you started with.

Because to separate them chemically, you have to use a chemical reaction. And the reactants are different from the products.
