A company produces accessories for smart phones and tablets. The profit on each smart phone case is $2, and the profit on each tablet case is $3. The company made a profit of $1,200 on the cases last month. The equation 2x + 3y = 1,200 represents the company's profit from cases last month, where x is the number of smart phone cases sold and y is the number of tablet cases sold. 3.Write the equation in function notation. Explain what the graph of the function represents. Be sure to use complete sentences. I don't quiet understand this.
I know the function notation is f(x)=2x+1,200 but I don't know how to explain what the graph of the function represents. Help?! @study100 ?? are you able to help me?
no that is the slope-intercept form. I already got that. I need function notation
The definition of function notation is f(x) = y
So, you need to slope intercept = function notation, the only difference is that they replace f(x) with y
your f(x) function is incorrect, get the slope intercept form first, then replace y with f(x)
ok so is it basically the same thing then?? I kinda don't get function notation? so is it 3f(x)-2x+1,200
Yes, exactly that :) then get f(x) alone by 3f(x) = -2x + 1200 divide 3 to both sides.
\[f(x) = \frac{ -2 }{ 3 }x + 400\]
@MilenaSaeger As explained, notation function is f(x) = y Reread the problem What did they tell you that y represents?
y represented the y intercept which is (0,3)
look that the work problem text, they say that " y is the number of tablets cases sold". Since f(x) = y so, f(x) represents the number of tablets cases sold last month
Lemme know if you have questions.
The graph of f(x) represents the number of tablets cases sold last month. The graph is f(x).
ok thank you. I understand it much better now
You're welcomed :) Glad it helps
