I've gotten two answers on this question and i need help figuring out which one is correct. The number of customers that visit a local small business is 29,600 and has been continuously declining at a rate of 2.9% each year. What is the approximate number of customers that visit the business in 10 years? is it 22,149 or 22,054?

OpenStudy (phi):

2.9% is 0.029 we go down by (1-0.029)* 29600 the first year in general 29600* 0.971^n where n is the number of years

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

please help me with my problem next @phi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi i used that equation and got 22,054 and submitted it and it was wrong..

OpenStudy (phi):

do they say if you should round and if so, to what decimal place?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope it just says approximate.

OpenStudy (phi):

perhaps they want 22054 without the comma?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was a multiple choice question. my options were a. 22,149 b. 21,874 c. 39,558 d. 22,054 when i clicked D, it said it was incorrect

OpenStudy (phi):

I would take a screen shot and ask your teacher about this. Unless there is more to the problem or a typo, the answer should be 22,054
