Alcohol wiped across a tabletop rapidly disappears. What happens to the temperature of the tabletop? Why? @superhelp101

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

i have noticed that the temperature of the tabletop gets cooler. The alcohol evaporates, it changes from a liquid to a gas. You need energy for the liquid to turn into a vapor. that is why the temp. drops

OpenStudy (asib1214):

the tabletop will get cooler because it'll use the high temperature of the tabletop to vaporize because this type of material has a very very low vapor point, meaning they evaporate quite easily. For example if you place a drop of petroleum gas on your hand, it'll vaporize in seconds causing the temperature of your hand to drop because it uses the your body temperature as a source of heat to vaporize.
