How to find the intersection of a curve and a line? Eg. find the intersection of y=3x+2 and x^2+2xy+3y^2 +4x+8y-11=0

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

well we could try a direct substitution plug in "3x+2" for "y" in the curve equation

Yea i know. its a bit too lengthy. Is there a shorter way?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is one of the shortest ways, probably the shortest in fact. you need to practice until you can do it under one. it is possible.

actually i am preparing for IIT entrance exam where u probably get 3 min for one ques. But this method would take atleast 2 mins just for finding the points. And this is not the fll ques.

@Auxuris Hmmm. Ok i will try.
