Without graphing, what does the equation Y=(x-3)(x+5), tell you about the graph of the function?

OpenStudy (dan815):

well... when is y = 0?

OpenStudy (dan815):

and since its a product of x+something * x+ something.. must be a degree 2 function.. so a quadratic and umm... also no negative infront of x so it must be facing upward

OpenStudy (dan815):

u can also find the vertex

OpenStudy (dan815):

by setting y'=0 and finding the x coordinate which makes that true and finding the y coordinate of it...

OpenStudy (dan815):

oh wait u already know the x coordinate since its halfway between the zeros

OpenStudy (dan815):

(3+-5)/2 = middle x.. u can find the y value there and u have the y value of the vertex as wel
