Help Me!!! Sally is playing a board game and rolls two number cubes. Let A = {the sum of the number cubes is odd} and let B = {the sum of the number cubes is divisible by 2}. List the outcomes in A ∩ B. {2,4,6,8,10,12} {0,2} { } {0,2,4,6,8,10,12}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@MARC_ do you think you can help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Two number cubes: (List all the possible numbers first)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2,4 and 6 right? @MARC_

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sum would be odd when one die rolls an even number and the other rolls an odd number (even + odd = odd). The sum would be even if both dice roll even numbers or odd numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@HelpMePrettyPlease4 this should give you an idea of how to list the sample space's outcomes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is just 0 and 2? @SithsAndGiggles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know nothing about that, i'm confused myself @HelpMePrettyPlease4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kaebeee95 do you know anybody that can come help me cause i have to get this problem right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Alpheryite i am not sure what to put, can you please help me! please!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im new , i really dont know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Alpheryite what do u think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Its_A_Moot_Point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Its_A_Moot_Point hey. :-) do you think you can help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SithsAndGiggles I still haven't figures it out can you help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first thing to notice is that the sample space of either A or B is a set of coordinate pairs, not single numbers. For example, rolling a 1 and a 2 (which sums to 3, an odd number), would be listed as (1,2), an element in A. This means you can eliminate everything but the empty set option. Another way to get the same answer is that, like I said in my last comment, the set A consists of pairs of even and odd numbers, whereas B consists of pairs of evens and pairs of odds. For example, (1,2) is a pair in A, while (2,2) and (1,5) are pairs in B. No pair in A will consist of both evens and odds, which means A and B will share no common elements, so their intersection is empty, i.e. \(A\cap B=\{\}\).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh so the answer is {}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SithsAndGiggles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, didn't I say that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ty!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its CCCCCC explanation because A say the sum of number cubes that are odd. meaning ROLLS DICE* 1+2=3 (SUM OF CUBES THAT ARE ODD) 3 is a odd number and so on 3,5,7,9,11. LET b = sum of cubes divisible by 2 none are divisible by 2. but you didnt need to do this step because 3,5,7,9,11 are none of the options.
