(x,y) the x is independent variable, y is the dependent variable So the set {-2, 3,1,5} are the independent variables

a function is like a machine, you give something, then it produces something with that what you give called input, what it gives called output. input is same thing as independent variable, output is same as dependent variable. since Y is the product of f(x) it is depending on what we give the machine F(x)
