Although Walt Whitman and Emily wingspaninson employed different styles, some of the broad themes of their works were the same: nature, death, immortality, and religion. Do you think the common themes in these works from masters of American literature still have the same importance in modern literature? Or are such themes now too well-worn to build original works that are appealing to a modern audience? If so, are there other themes that have replaced them? Explain your opinion with examples from materials you’ve read in school or on your own.
