how do i find the period of a sine/cosine graph by looking at it?

You can find it by tracing from one point of the wave to the corresponding point of a next cycle.
The difference in the x-values will be the period.

Let's say the wave starts at x = 0.
The corresponding point is at x = π

The period will be π - 0 = π
