Please help for a medal and fan? Iris has been studying an invasive population of snails. This particular snail has no local predators, so the population grows wildly. She has observed that the population follows an exponential rate of growth for fifteen years. 1.) Create your own exponential function, f(x), which models the snail population. You will need to identify the principal population of the snails and the rate of growth each year. Explain to Iris how your function shows the principal population and the rate of growth, in complete sentences.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so uh what assignment is this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.03 Exponential Functions and Models

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am reeaaally bad at exponential functions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok, btw i just got a notice from flvs, they are exempting 4.04 so dont submit it okay?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Really?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and uh idk how to do this..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, me neither. Do you know anyone that could help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ninjasandtigers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

module 4 sucks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, it really does so far.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i just finished 4.01 and 4.02 and got 10/10 on both of them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got a 10/10 on 4.01, but a 7/10 on 4.02

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am an honors student with a grade of 91.52

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got an 83 in the class right now, not honors.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what math is this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Algebra 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sweet geezus thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't compete with you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you help @ninjasandtigers ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, so the formula I think you would use is \[P=P _{o}e ^{rt}\] where \[P= finalpopulation\] \[P _{0}=initialpopulation\] \[r=rate of growth\] \[t=time\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So for this question you are basically making up data and the time would be 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That seems to complicated. I'm not that great at math and my teacher might think I'm trying to cheat. Can you make it more simple?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ninjasandtigers ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so you don't have anything but the time right? which is 15. you yourself have to choose the rate and the initial population

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does it matter what the rate and initial population is? Can I just pick at random?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, thats what it sounds like

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 and 10?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5% as the rate and 10 as the initial population?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ninjasandtigers you there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry yeah i'm here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so \[f(x)=10(.005)^{15}\] would be the function where 10 is the initial population .005 is the rate of growth and 15 is the time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, is that it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

seems like it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thanks! Can you help me with another question attached to this assignment for another medal on a different question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will tag you in it.
