I will give you medals, please help me! What is the axis of symmetry of y=x^2+4x-2 and y=- x^2+x-7

OpenStudy (aum):

Both are vertical parabolas. Therefore, the axis of symmetry is a vertical line passing through the vertex. Complete the square and put the equation in the vertex form. The x-coordinate of the vertex will give you the equation of the axis of symmetry: x = x-coordinate of the vertex is the equation of the axis of symmetry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the first one the axis of symmetry is x=-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the second its x=1/2
