because openstudy uses mathJaX, not all functions and usepackages of $\LaTeX$ are installed because its not necessary.

You would need to use one of the online $\LaTeX$ document editors to have that work. For example: https://www.writelatex.com/ Those use a real $\LaTeX$ engine and preview with a browser based PDF viewer.
