some help with this word problem would be really appreciated! I'll be sure to medal and fan!!!!!!! Two cars are starting from positions that are 20 miles apart. They are both headed for the same intersection, as depicted on the diagram below (will attach). Car A is traveling at 30 mph and Car B is traveling at 45 mph. which car will reach the intersection first? first question: use the law of cosines to determine how far Car B has to travel to reach the intersection. i got 7.07 miles but feel as though that isn't right.
Use the cosine law to calculate Car B's distance to the intersection. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS504US504&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=law%20of%20cosines The problem is now equivalent to two cars moving on a straight hiway.
this time i got 70.79, but i also tried to find all the missing lengths and sides to the triangle before i started the problem so was that originally a mistake? because i wasn't sure how to do the law of cosines without knowing the information that wasn't given! @robtobey
wait, would it just be 28.05?!
