What is Social Darwinism?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a social disorder

OpenStudy (nurali):

Darwinism is survival of the fittest...i.e. the fastest cheetah is going to get the food, and because he has more certainty of getting the food, is more likely to pass along his genes, meaning that over generations, cheetahs will become faster. Social Darwinism is the same idea in the context of society rather than nature, e.g The most aggressive businessman will rise to the top of the company. It is, more or less, a parody of actual Darwinism, because in practice, birth rates among the poor (in this context the "social losers") are much higher than among the rich, so the focus of social darwinism is not genetics but social status. Really, it is a trite way of promoting aggression and lack of empathy as a way to get ahead and improve your social status
