The equation of a line is shown below: y = fraction reading 1 over 5x - 9 What is the equation of a line which is perpendicular to this line and passes through (1, 58)? y = 5x - 63 y = -5x + 63 y = 9x - 63 y = 9x + 63

so \[y=\frac{ 1 }{ 5 }x-9\] is the original line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

Ok good, this one's pretty easy then. You find the negative reciprocal of the slope, which would be -5. This is gonna be the slope for your new line. You don't actually have to solve it completely because you only have one option with slope -5. Your answer is the second one, \[y=-5+63\]
