Solve for x. -ax + 4b > 9 answers: x > the quantity negative 3 times b minus 5 all over negative a x < the quantity 5 minus 3 times b all over negative a x < the quantity negative 3 times b plus 5 all over negative a x > the quantity negative 3 times b plus 5 all over negative a

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

First you subtract 4b from both sides. Then you divide both sides by -a to fully isolate x. Keep in mind that dividing both sides by a negative number will flip the inequality sign. \[\Large -ax + 4b > 9\] \[\Large -ax > 9 - 4b\] \[\Large x < \frac{9 - 4b}{-a}\]
