3|x − 8| + 15 = 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, subtract the 15 over to the other side. 3|x-8|=3 Now that you have this, divide 3 by both sides. |x-8|=1 Do you know what to do from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you change the 1 to both negative and positive and subtract 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about ones like this... |2x + 6| − 4 = 20 ?? please help that ^ really helped explaining it like that.. thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Start by adding the 4 to other side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then divide by the 2 or just leave it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because the 2 in inside the absolute value bars, it must stay until it is alone.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then you divide the 24 and -24 by 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, let's go back a step. After you added the 4 to the 20, you ended up with this equation: |2x + 6| = 24 From there, you may split the |2x+6| = 24 to two equations like the first.

Just making sure you're following well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now, it's easiest if you get the X value alone. Here are your two equations: |2x+6|=24 |2x+6|=-24 subtract the 6 to the other side in both equations.

I get it now thank you so much!!

You're welcome :)
