Jack was hired by a farmer to paint the silo on his farm. He only had to paint the curved surface (the cylindrical tube). Each gallon of paint he was using would cover 300 square feet. If the silo had a diameter of 28 feet and was 42 feet high, how many gallons of paint would Jack need to complete the job? 13 gallons 31 gallons 15 gallons 11 gallons HOw do you do this..
I got the answer 31 but I looked the answer up. I have to take the sol soon and I want to make sure I get everything I am learning so.....
This problem is asking you to find lateral area of the cylinder.
lateral area = 2pi r h
Its okay,
wow, twice in a row. lateral area = 2 pi (14) (42) 1/2 of 28 is 14
okay I got 3695 as the answer to that...
now that you have the area in feet squared divide by 300 to get the gallons lateral area= 3694.51 3695/300 = ?
12.3
no, take the rounded answer to divide 3965/300
because most of these questions expect you to use 3.14 as pi.
I still got 12.3150422
really? when I enter 3965/300 = 13.21
wait how did you get 3965...I got 3695,
Another explanation for this would be. If you round down to 12 gallons, then you would miss 0.31 gallons of paint to finish it. So round up to 13 gallons.
oh okay I get it... thanks!
you're welcomed :) all the more you can't round down to 11 gallons.
haha okay thanks!
