This is the lesson in this tale.
Si al principio no te muestras como eres, no podrás hacerlo cuando tú quisieres.
If at first you do not show as you are, you can not do when you want in a future.

This two points are supporting the idea of this tale.
1. A los pocos días el suegro quiso hacer lo mismo que el yerno y mató un gallo que no obedecía. Su mujer le dijo:

You must read a lot of Spanish books when you are native speaker. This is the best way to learn more about your native language too.
If you need to improve your pronuntiation the best way is to listen videos or radio with good spanish like spaniard movies. Your brain needs to customize with the sounds and you need to repeat the words like the children when they are learning to speak.
