Thanksgiving Day always falls on the third Thursday in November . This year it was on November 18. on what date will it be next year of next year is not a leap year ?

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

mmm well cool trick :)

OpenStudy (larseighner):

The question is wrong. Thanksgiving is always the 4th Thursday in November in the US. But you are stuck with it.

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

but @LarsEighner signore the date , how could we know ?

OpenStudy (larseighner):

How many weeks are in a year?

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

52 week +1 day

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

so ur saying only one day diffrence :o

OpenStudy (larseighner):

So if niether year is a leap year, what is the relation between the weekday this year started to the weekday next year starts?

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

one day more ?

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

like if this yr its sunday then next yr its monday ?

OpenStudy (larseighner):

Yes. So if this year started on Monday, next year will start on what day of the week?

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

haha tuesday then ect right ?

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

the fourth yr we will add also one extra day

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

@rational see this xD

OpenStudy (larseighner):

Yes. So if the first day of the year is one day later in the week, then every corresponding date will be one day later in the week.

OpenStudy (larseighner):

Thus if the 18 Nov was Thursday this year, it will be Friday next year. But the question is what date will be Thanksgiving.

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

cool >.< so according to the question , next yr thanks giving well be on November 17 right ?

OpenStudy (larseighner):

Yes. Notice I said both years were not leap years just to kick off the solution. You should see that it does not really matter if this year is not a leap year after March 1. We can pretend there was a non-leapyear calendar for this year.

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

@LarsEighner well thank you ^_^ hehe it was confusing me :P

OpenStudy (larseighner):

I do genealogy and people's ages are given in years, months, and days but their year of birth may not be given on the tombstone. So this kind of question comes up frequently. What was x's bithday, given date of death and age in yrs. mos. and days.

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

ohh :)
