Is Radioactivity most common in any particular areas? If so, where?

Ok... The Earth, and all living things on it, are constantly bombarded by radiation from outside our solar system, mainly alpha rays. There are a lot of gamma rays in the sun and luckily for us far away in the universe. On earth, Africa has the greatest known sources of radiation, isotopes of potassium, uranium, and thorium. There are also areas such as Australia and North America that are rich in Uranium and this has fueled nuclear technolgy also. People who mine uranium, etc., scientists, medical personnel and nuclear power plant workers are the greatest risk and need to suit up and stay behind protective shields. Greater distance, shielding and limiting time of exposure to radiation are the precautions. The main known dangers to health are cancer and leukimaia. Gamma is the most dangerous and it must be worked on behind thick walls made of lead by remote control. Alpha is the least dangerous, but will pass through paper, cardboard, gold leaf, aluminum foil, etc.....! Hope it helps!!
