OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Notice to ALL users! Ambassador? Moderator? Confused on them? ~Please enter~ created by @beccaboo333 and @mathslover

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Recently many users have been accusing Ambassadors of having moderator tools. We do not have any access to this. It can be very hard for us Ambassadors when we have angry users attacking us for things we are not capable of. We simply are here to help guide any new users as well as current ones. We also help everyone with learning the rules and just learn how to be a good member of our community. We respect that everyone may be angry due to a warning or suspension. But we are NOT the ones to go to for it. If you are ever suspended or warned, please email contact@openstudy.com or abuse@openstudy.com Someone will help you through that. Do not create new accounts to falsely report users who you think got you suspended. Nor should you create a new account to evade a suspension. It will add to your main accounts suspension to a much longer time. If you ever have a question on ways you could end up suspended or warned, by all means contact anyone with the purple A next to their username. They will help you get a good understanding of the rules of this site. That's what we are here for. Thank you for reading and understanding. https://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct https://openstudy.com/terms-and-conditions https://openstudy.com/privacy-policy

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Second part written by @mathslover Yeah, that's true. Recently, many of the users have been asking Ambassadors that why have they banned/suspended them? This point needs to be made clear to all. ∙ Ambassadors don't have ANY powers. They are just normal users who got an A for good and responsive work for OpenStudy. They just welcome new users, introduce them to the site, and behind the scenes, they do several projects. ∙ Users need to understand the difference between Moderators and Ambassadors : Moderators are those who are selected by administrators for maintaing the decorum and discpline on OpenStudy. They suspend/ban the users who violate the OpenStudy Code-of-Conduct or Terms and Conditions. Though, moderators never take any decision on the personal backgrounds, they take these decisions on the basis of the violation done by the user. Hence, there are only 1% chances for them to be wrong. ∙ In this case, if you think you were suspended without any reason, or you need more investigation regarding this matter, mail to : abuse@Openstudy.com Ambassadors, as I said above, don't have ANY rights to suspend/ban any user. They can report a user, like normal users can do. Many points are mentioned nicely @beccaboo333 . Just wanted to put this up too.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

We've been exposed.

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

:o

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

Ambassadors dont have powers?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I haven't really seen such violations against ambassadors when I am online? Perhaps they check and wait till I go offline, so that I, god forbid, don't see them and so that I won't "not-do" anything about it ;)

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

interesting :o That is very smart @SolomonZelman

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

I've always known ambis don't have any such tools, but sometimes the lack of users knowledge to that will work in your favor. c;

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I mean even mods can't really do much to users that don't value their accounts if they can make new ones.... but if I am not mistaken an ambassador can close the question, no?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I mean close a question in general, not this one :)

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

No, ambassadors cannot close questions.

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Or not other users' questions. They can close their own, yes.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

What CAN ambassadors do then ?

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

@preetha has all du power.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes, she is admin

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

nothing solomon

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

they do nothing -_-

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

ambassadors are called ambassadors for nothing?

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

yes...

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

That is not very pleasurable to be one.

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

"∙ Ambassadors don't have ANY powers. They are just normal users who got an A for good and responsive work for OpenStudy. They just welcome new users, introduce them to the site, and behind the scenes, they do several projects." @SolomonZelman

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

In general, ambassadors don't have any special powers. Their purpose is to be ambassadors of OpenStudy. To greet new users and help keep everything flowing steadily with the site's terms.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Well, according to many others I should get a purple A (not that I would want a purple letter next to a green smartscore and a blue picture.. no, wouldn't fit!). iambatman should get an A... you know how many users should get an A then??? It's about 50 more ambs if not more

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

They ARE, however, identified and qualified as helpful users that know about this site. They typically have more knowledge about the site than normal users, but no, they have no special tools. Just awesome people. (:

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I bet I have more latex knowledge than any amb xD

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

@SolomonZelman u r supposed 2 sign up 4 dat.......

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Others have also suggested that I become an ambassador. Yes, you can apply to become an ambassador, but that is your personal choice.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I got an offer to be a mod from here, and? I don't see any point in having more and more ambassadors. It's like having 1 slave-owner per each slave.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

from hero

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

@SolomonZelman i think u should tell preetha dat.....

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

No, he offered and I refused

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

\(\color{skyblue}{I~think~u~r~spamming~dis~post~solomon}\)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Wait you think I am spamming, or am I really spamming. How sure are you ?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

That is your personal choice, though. Being a moderator is a difficult job. And one reason ambassadors are good is because they are here, as qualified users, to welcome new users and they help ensure that everyone is following the site's terms. They kind-of help moderators because if there were no ambis, the moderators would have to do all of that. Trust me, moderators already have enough on their plate, and even with the amount of ambis we already have, sometimes there are too many users breaking the terms.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

After SolomonZelmanisabit... 1 and 2 I don't really mind to be called a spammer ;)

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

This isn't exactly "spamming". You raised a question, we are answering. No spam.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I think mods trust me without me being an amb (mostly)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

at least I am not a spammer.. nice to hear that, ty

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Clearly, they do trust you, and no problem.

OpenStudy (taylorterminate):

0.0 so many questions solomon.....

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

and you also prefer frak :) because this you used it just now.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Not all letters make sense in frak though, S is like a G, y is without a shape... but whatever you like

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha true, but we should talk about this elsewhere so it isn't considered spam. c;

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

@Abhisar, he said that Hero offered. :p

OpenStudy (abhisar):

LOL

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Sad that there are ambassadors who think they may have some power to trick others, and that others are accusing and being threatened by a fake power. The whole idea for being an ambassador, is to be a role model on this site. We have so many new users everyday who may have no clue what so ever, they may feel overwhelmed, and they may not understand the whole idea and rules of this site. Ambassadors, you were told to WELCOME with NICE words, and show generosity and kindness. To show respect to others on this site, in order to show them the good in this site, and to be a role model to help better the community. You are to help people who have simple questions, or atleast try and be kind to them if you can't help out in whatever they are asking. I'm not only talking about questions we post by the way. Ambassadors, yes, you are here to help represent the Code of Conduct. To help maintain the community a bit more and ask others to follow the rules of this site because it would be in their and your best interest. Finally, AMBASSADORS, There is an A for pride that you are a role model, not at all is there a power included. You are a user like anyone else who has been chosen to represent the best of the community. Do your duties, and others will follow soon enough. :) As for users who accuse, no need to get on and evade suspension, you will get into more trouble. Its like double trouble. But make that triple because you've already gotten in trouble once, make it twice when you evade, and thrice when you accuse. If you have any questions about your suspension, be sure to contact contact@openstudy.com or abuse@openstudy.com It's quite disappointing that some ambassadors feel free to threaten other users. You are definitely not showing any positivism. Nor are the users who accuse. Live life free and happy, but don't bring negativity. It creates problems for you too. Have a great day everyone! -Karatechopper

OpenStudy (dan815):

"hey take these decisions on the basis of the violation done by the user. Hence, there are only 1% chances for them to be wrong. " Hey, I don't get how she got 1%. @Kainui @ganeshie8 @abb0t please help \[\Large\square.\]

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Agreed that 1% is bit high... the other day i saw her doing regression analysis in R language... so she must be having a reliable database to support her claims if necessary :P

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

@abb0t where is the `dx` notation ?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

YoOu are forgetting something:) And what point are you trying to make ?

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Can you users keep this thread to questions about ambassadors and moderators? I didn't realize one simple thread made it a free for all to chat willingly. -.-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well keeping it on topic, basically if you are part of ambis, you also have a higher chance of becoming a mod since you get training and such, so basically if you take the derivative of ambis you get a mod, and if you integrate an ambi you get a regular old user like mua ^.^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they have poweres but they just dont wanna tell u XD im just getting off of a 5 week ban and i know it was a ambassador

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/14kZejqKJuYBxuRCxCjwa-rAUtScOYB6KTlrZDmYLTGM/viewform Here's the application for the ambassador program

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

it wasn't an ambassador @Helpofthegods

OpenStudy (joftheworld):

potatoes

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Lies and slander. I definitely have powers. See?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

@poopsiedoodle is correct - Ambassadors do not have these options. However, certain Global Interns and Directors on OpenStudy can suspend you. For example:

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

wait what really? I never knew that was a thing o.o

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Global Interns can suspend people. Sasogeek was a Global Intern, I believe, back in 2011.

thomaster (thomaster):

There are indeed some voluntary interns (I used to be one), but they don't have any buttons or special powers. Only global moderators, group moderators and administrators do, though the rank group moderator is no longer in use. They all have a moderator title and a purple color so you can't see the difference. Global Intern is a title that can be given to users, just like the ambassador title. There are no users with the global intern title currently. Compassionate just edited a screenshot to make it look like he has these buttons, which of course he doesn't (#foreveralone). Just FYI, I attached a screenshot of how real mod buttons look like.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

They're onto me :^) But I thought Global Interns did have moderative powers? They're purple, too.

thomaster (thomaster):

Well, the thing is... they're not purple. They just used to have a global intern title.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

I remember Sasogeek having the "Global Intern" title while he was purple.

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

What is "Kick"?

Parth (parthkohli):

Do also note: there are some ambassadors such as me who work secretly as moderators. So the two are the same to a degree.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

so much for secrecy, parth heheehehehhheheeeehehhhehehehe

Nnesha (nnesha):

6 month ago :O

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

This post is gold to me. (And chocolate to @Nnesha )

Finally has been bumped xD

OpenStudy (preetha):

Nnesha (nnesha):

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Yeah ...@Compassionate claims he has moderator powers even though he doesn't and everyone thinks it's so funny.

OpenStudy (conqueror):
