Medal and fan will be awarded! I really need help on this question please!! Solve the absolute value equation: |x^{2}-2x-7| = -9x-3
try
CAN YOU TRY?
dude, i dont know what to do .___.
WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY DO WHEN SOLVING FOR ABSOLUTE VALUES?
....make everything positive? why all caps omg
so it's x^{2}+2x+7 = -9x-3 ?
No. It is def not that (no caps). if the thing in the abs is positive, then it is equal to the other thing. |a| = b -> a = b but if the thing in the abs is negative then |a| = b -> a = -b The abs has forced it to be pos, but it is really neg, so it's natural self must be = -b
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH QUADRATICS?
COMPLETE THE SQUARE, FACTOR, QUADRATIC FORMULA.... ETC
that's the part I'm having trouble on :P
THEN LEARN HOW TO COMPLETE THE SQUARE
ok seriously you're making me feel uncomfortable; can you please stop typing in all caps?
OKAY I WILL STOP TYPING IN CAPS happy?
one equation will be coming like (x+7/2)^2-11
ok, so what do i do next?
Solve for x... so that's only the one equation.Absolute value always gives 2 equations... so the equation under the MOD if change it's sign and follow the same procedure.
i still dont get it...
do i just punch it in the graphing calc?
