I'd say the first clue was saying "What if it were venomous? It didn't look like a viper, but it could be." the author is saying it's most likely not poisonous. another clue is, "The snake jumped, raised its head like it was going to strike, and then stayed right where it was." because it's showing the snake wouldn't/didn't attack her.

#24, a backstory is a narrative providing a history or background context, especially for a character or situation in a literary work, film, or dramatic series. I think B makes the most sense since it shows a history.
