OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Do you know what alliteration is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

errr...sure

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

What do you mean? Either you know it or not:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anyone who helps..I will praise you! + I will MEDAL!

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

I'd say the first clue was saying "What if it were venomous? It didn't look like a viper, but it could be." the author is saying it's most likely not poisonous. another clue is, "The snake jumped, raised its head like it was going to strike, and then stayed right where it was." because it's showing the snake wouldn't/didn't attack her.

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

for the second one, a claim is a main idea thats backed up with evidence that supports the idea for the third one, what seems like a logical answer to you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3. Logical support...right?

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

I'd say so. for #4, alliteration is the repetition of the same letter or sound at the beginning of words or in a stressed syllable of a phrase. #5 is pretty easy, what do you think the answer is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d?

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

correct! :) for #6, I'd look at sentences like: "Lacking the scales that most fish have, the hagfish secretes the most amazing slime to protect itself. This slime may be used to suffocate predators." "But the hagfish's truly horrific nature lies in what it does to its prey, not its predators. With an excellent sense of smell that compensates for almost total blindness, the hagfish will locate and latch on to a victim. With a circle of razor sharp teeth, the hagfish bores a hole into the side of its now-doomed prey. Once the hole is complete, the hagfish just welcomes itself inside for a meal of fish innards. " "They live most of their lives at depths of up to 5,600 feet." (builds mystery) "This creepy critter is part eel and part giant pouch. Like a pelican's enormous pouch-shaped mouth, the mouth of the gulper eel can open quite wide to gulp prey. It has a long tail tipped with a glowing organ that is used to lure in prey. Thanks in part to its tail, the gulper can reach up to six feet in length. " etc, there are many feelings of mystery and terror in this story, just skim through and you'll find a ton :) #7 is pretty self-explanatory, what do you think the answer is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

correct for #8, I'd say the correct answer is C since it's the only sentence without a spelling error. for #9, what do you think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

#2 is "a" right?

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

yes for #9 and #2, for #10, a line is a verse or stanza for #11, a fiend is like a demon or something evil so I'd say villian for #12, the correct seems to be C since the creatures they're talking about they couldn't have possibly seen since they live so far deep into the ocean i see you have 13-16 answered for #17, I'm not sure but I think its D, to remain for #18, C sounds the answer that makes the most sense but what do you think? for 19, I think it's A but again, I'm not sure because I don't know the context of the sentence. what answer do you think makes the most sense?

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

for #20 & 21, concise means giving the most information in the fewest amount of words. #22 & 23 are pretty obvious #24, a backstory is a narrative providing a history or background context, especially for a character or situation in a literary work, film, or dramatic series. I think B makes the most sense since it shows a history. #25, armaments are military weapons and equipment so A.

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

good luck on your practice test!
