Consider line segment AB whose endpoints are (1, 4) and (4, 8). If this segment is dilated by a scale factor of 4 centered at the origin, find the length of the new segment, A’B’. Answer 4 5 20 400

@amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

scale and pythag .... what do we get? or pythag and scale since all linear parts scale the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um...I don't THINK they want us to use pythag... I chose 20

OpenStudy (amistre64):

pythag is the distance formula ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh...yes then I thought you meant the pythagorean theorem lol but yes, they want us to use pythag then

OpenStudy (amistre64):

20 is good to me. if we move the points to the origin: 1,4 4,8 -1-4 -1-4 ------------ 0,0 3,4 we get the obiquitous 3,4,5 right triangle

OpenStudy (amistre64):

scaled by 4 we get 5*4 = 20
