Choose the sentence that correctly uses pronouns. Whom stopped to pay attention to the street performer? Everyone from children to dogs out for walks stopped to listen to she. Them enjoyed her unusual style and mix of instruments. The singer herself wrote that beautiful song.

OpenStudy (larseighner):

None of them is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isn't D correct, or the last sentence

OpenStudy (larseighner):

"Herself" is a reflex pronoun, but there is no reflexive verb in the sentence, It would be correct, for example: She looked at herself in the mirror. My grandmother started talking to herself. Julia tagged herself in Byrna's picture. Mary mailed herself a postcard while she was on vacation. "Herself" refers back to the subject when the subject is also the object of the verb. That is what reflexive pronouns are for. I agree that D is probably the intend correct answer to this item. Unfortunately these items are written by educators. If you are in college or get to college, meet some education majors. You will get my point. A red grading pencil does not make someone an authority on English usage.
