What is the function of the metaphor used in this line from the poem? We paused before a house that seemed A swelling of the ground; It symbolizes the grave. It represents immortality. It brings back childhood memories. It is a warning of danger.

Well i tried interpreting it, and i think she was talking about death in that line. so the "house that swells in the ground" is the mound of her grave.
