Escapism is a large part of the story but if I remember correctly he was driven by vengeance.

What the hell are the choices... am I blind or your teachers know nothing about the what they are asking? The answer to question 1 is that the judge had to put him in prison to save his relative... Edmond Dantes .... common man !
