What are the discontinuities of the function f(x) = the quantity x squared minus 16 over the quantity 4x minus 24 ?

discontinuities occur in the denominator

so find the values of x that make the denominator zero

ok... if you do some polynomial division or synthetic division you get the oblique asymptote



ignore the remainder and the oblique asymptote is the quotient

so

y = x + 1
